Leslie Sweder

Artist, drunken paw collaborator, revolutionary.

Living in the city, I have become aware of a certain urbanity that perpetuates a chronic disconnect from the land that we are a part of. This is what drives my explorations of the landscape that has formed me and my place within it. It is out of this place of discord that I have developed a multidisciplinary practice which includes public interventions, painting, collaborative drawing and more recently, photography. Each of these practices are direct responses to and/or recordings of my surrounding environment and each one implicitly feeds the others. As a whole, my practice is always mindful of people and place and the ongoing conversation between the two. To me, landscape is not what we see from afar. It is what we experience through all of our senses. It is what we are.
